Linking Geological Facies and Petrophysical Rock Types

28 & 29 November 2017 – SPWLA Saudi Arabia Chapter SAC in collaboration with Dhahran Geoscience Society DGS conducted Two Days Joint Topical Workshop on “Linking Geological Facies and Petrophysical Rock Types”. The main objectives of the workshop were to review the current methodologies used for geological facies characterization and petrophysical rock type determination, and explore possible links between them.

With more than 200 attendees actively participated in this event, the workshop was opened by Chapter President Dr. Tareq AlGhamdi, who highlighted the importance of understanding the link between Geological facies and rock types, then followed by keynote speaker talk; Mr. Aus Al Tawil Manager of Reservoir Characterization Department in Saudi Aramco.

This event including 6 technical sessions on two days covering 12 presentations and topics related to geological facies, rock typing and the link between them, a Panel discussion held during this event and Dr. S. Mark Ma, the Chapter’s technical programs VP, summarized the technical sessions and group discussions with action plans.
